Prime Minister Janez Janša: The future of Slovenia rests upon its people

»Nowadays, to build and open a new school is no small venture« said the President of the Slovenian Government Janez Janša at today's inauguration ceremony of the new elementary school branch building in Žalna. New school buildings are often subject to criticism, but it is ultimately important that they provide good conditions for learning and other school activities.

In his speech, Janša emphasised the importance of the teaching profession, which is, in his words, among the most important professions that shape our common future. »What you teach the new generations is crucial for the future of Slovenia, since Slovenia's future rests upon its people. What we create is the result of our knowledge and of the way we use this knowledge« said the Prime minister. He continued by recalling the exceptional progress in education in the past forty years during which we witnessed a change in students' motivation to gain new knowledge as well as an improvement in the schools' financial conditions. »Today, we may be confident that the life of future generations will be much better than the life of the generations in the past decades«, said Janez Janša.

On inaugurating the new facility, which was blessed by the Auxiliary Bishop of Ljubljana Dr. Anton Jamnik, the Prime minister expressed a wish that students, their parents and teachers might enjoy the school building which replaced the old school which he used to attend himself. In particular he urged the children to preserve, while learning, their cheerfulness and curiosity, and everything else that makes children so special.
