Prime Minister Janša and Secretary General Perrin de Brichambaut agreed on the need to intensify efforts at the international level to stabilise the situation in Georgia. The top priority is to provide humanitarian aid, for which humanitarian organisations require access to those most in need. They were both also in agreement that the creation of an international safety mechanism would be the best solution to assure peace for both sides. Prime Minister Janša and Secretary General Perrin de Brichambaut welcomed the efforts undertaken by the French Presidency of the Council of the EU and the Finnish OSCE Chairmanship. They underlined the importance of the success of the emergency summit of the European Council on EU-Russia relations, which will take place on Monday, 1 September 2008, calling for clear messages from Brussels which encourage dialogue between all parties involved and their efforts to reach a peaceful solution.
Secretary General Perrin de Brichambaut, who will attend the 3rd Bled Strategic Forum, also expressed his thanks to the Slovenian Prime Minister for the constructive role played by Slovenia within the framework of the OSCE. He highlighted, in particular, the success of Slovenia’s Chairmanship of the Organisation in 2005.
