On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and on his personal behalf, Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša welcomed the arrest of Radovan Karadžić indicted by the Hague Tribunal. The long-awaited arrest, which must be followed by a fair trial in The Hague, represents an important step forward in closing the chapter on the tragic era of the recent history of the Western Balkans. The enforcement of justice, which bears special significance for the victims of war violence and their closest family members and friends, serves as a foundation for lasting reconciliation in the region.

PM Janša hopes that with continued fulfilment of the commitments assumed and in close cooperation with the international community, the Serbian authorities will be able to realise the full potential of integration into the European family of nations. When holding the EU Council Presidency, Slovenia made a special effort to provide a clear European incentive for Serbia and will continue to support the implementation of its European perspective.
