Today the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, met his key co-workers at the EU Presidency project, leaders of working groups, national delegates and organisers and coordinators from various ministries and government agencies. He took the opportunity to thank everyone for the hard work they have invested in the preparations for the EU Presidency in the past three years.

The preparation period saw 13 meetings of the Core Working Group for the EU Presidency, 21 meetings of the Operational Group for the EU Presidency, 33 coordination meetings of subgroups, and over 100 meetings of subgroups. Slovenia has carried out all the infrastructure work, built the Brdo Congress Centre, organised staff and staff training programmes related to the Presidency, and drawn up a programme for the EU Presidency.
"I am pleased to find that after three years of hard work, we are ready," said the PM, stressing that despite the careful planning, not all situations can be predicted. In the first half of 2008 we can expect unpredictable events which will entail quick responses. The Presidency preparations have been successfully concluded, which gives us the confidence that the Slovenian Presidency will be able to respond quickly and effectively.
