After casting his vote at a polling station in Grosuplje, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, said that he supported Lojze Peterle, who was the Prime Minister of the first democratically elected Slovenian Government and with whom he had already collaborated during Slovenia's independence bid. "I believe that this time, Slovenia can actually elect a president it deserves," said the PM.

He also said he hoped that Slovenia would have a president who had participated in its creation and who loves the country. "On this basis, the fair cooperation of the President with other state institutions is assured and a matter of course. Naturally, I supported Lojze Peterle," said the PM.
