Slovenia and Belgium, which have both ratified the Treaty Establishing a Constitution for Europe, share similar views on the future of the union. They are both in favour of the enlargement and further institutional development of the EU, which are inter-dependent projects.

With regard to the Western Balkans, Mr Janša and Mr De Gucht expressed their hopes for a peaceful resolution of the Kosovo status issue and agreed that stabilisation efforts needed to continue elsewhere in the region.
