While attending the international conference Caspian Outlook 2008, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia met the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who is paying an official visit to Slovenia.

The host and his guest agreed that the bilateral relations between the two countries were good and that there remained many opportunities to strengthen them, particularly in the economic area. President Aliyev presented the development plans of Azerbaijan, which, particularly in the energy sector, provide new opportunities for cooperating with European economies. They also exchanged views on the development of the EU neighbourhood policy, which includes Azerbaijan. PM Janša expressed Slovenia's support to strengthening cooperation of the EU with the Caspian region.
