Prime Minister: "I will focus my efforts on integrating the centre-left parties"
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, made a statement on the European Parliament election results. According to her, election results point to a defeat of centre-left parties although they obtained more votes in absolute terms than the right-wing parties. She stressed that she would focus her efforts on integrating the centre-left parties, the defeat being the result of left-wing fragmentation.
The Prime Minister announced that she would run as an independent candidate in the upcoming elections for the National Assembly and added that it was a common responsibility of everyone on the left to prevent the European Parliament election scenario from repeating itself. "I will do my best to integrate the centre-left parties and lead them to election victory with an overwhelming majority and to forming a government that will be among the best in the European Union," the Prime Minister said.
"During the past year, we and other coalition partners have demonstrated that we have the skill and the ability and that we know what we want and, moreover, that, despite the urgent need for fiscal consolidation, Slovenia is still in a position to preserve the welfare state and the public education and health systems," concluded the Primer Minister.
