Prime Minister on the importance of Slovenia's maritime orientation and our beloved sea on the occasion of Maritime Day
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, today attended the Maritime Day celebration ceremony in Protorož. In her speech, she emphasised the importance of our country's maritime orientation and the advantages of its strategic maritime position. These advantages have to be used while taking care to improve the quality of life in coastal regions and carefully protect the environment maintaining the coexistence of the port, industry and tourism.
Prime Minister Bratušek highlighted the importance of increasing demand for the employment of seafarers, which presents an additional opportunity for new jobs for young job seekers. She also explained that the Slovenian Government is aware how important it is for our maritime education system to develop successfully and will ensure the essential budget funds for this purpose, despite difficult financial situation. "I am pleased to note that, in spite of the economic crisis and fierce competition, the Slovenian maritime economy and accompanying activities are successfully entering the European and global markets," said Prime Minister Bratušek and added, "therefore, the protection and balanced development of our maritime resources need to be ensured." At the close of her speech, Prime Minister Bratušek thanked all who contribute to the development and conservation of our maritime tradition.
After the ceremony, Prime Minister Bratušek attended the opening of a loan exhibition from Turkey "Piri Reis – The Cartographer of Suleiman the Magnificent" at the Sergej Mašera Maritime Museum and viewed the historically important cartographic work of the great cartographer, including the maps of our coastline.
