The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, hosted the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, who was on an official visit to Slovenia. Their talks focused on current reforms in Slovenia, the upcoming European Council meeting, measures to enhance economic growth and increase employment, and youth policy. Ms Bratušek and Mr Van Rompuy devoted special attention to the current situation in Slovenia, where people are dealing with the devastating effects of snow and sleet that have been battering Slovenia over the last few days.
In a statement to the media, the Prime Minister stressed that she had informed Mr Van Rompuy of the bad weather conditions in Slovenia and that Slovenia would ask the European Union for solidarity assistance. She took this opportunity to thank Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, and, in particular, all the individuals who are right now out there working to make this situation bearable.
The Prime Minister also acquainted the European Council President with the latest reform developments in Slovenia. They agreed that major steps forward had been taken on this front and that Slovenia should continue the work at the same pace. Mr Van Rompuy congratulated Ms Bratušek on a job well done in stabilising the financial sector, thereby providing a good basis for further work and economic recovery.
