The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, attended the 8th Slovenian Economic Summit, where she also delivered an address, in which she outlined how the Slovenian Government sees the recommendations of the European Commission and what measures it intends to take in the months to come to deal with the economic and financial crisis.

The Prime Minister stressed that, with the measures taken to date, Slovenia had managed to reassure European institutions and international financial markets, but the real work is yet to begin. In addition to bank recovery, further system-wide measures will be needed to improve the capital structure of Slovenian enterprises and their creditworthiness.  The legislation that will provide the basis for the deleveraging of enterprises without the assistance of the state has been submitted to the National Assembly for discussion and adoption, she explained, adding that one of the key measures to be taken is the further privatisation of state-owned enterprises. In this regard, the Government will strengthen the interest in good Slovenian enterprises at investment conferences to be held in Düsseldorf, Milano, Paris, and Moscow in the coming weeks.

At the close of her address, the Prime Minister stressed that the objective of the Government’s measures was to ease the burden of the crisis on the economy and not the opposite. She expressed her wish for continued good cooperation between the representatives of the Government, foreign institutions and the economy, saying that she was convinced that Slovenia would not need help from any other troika than this one. ″We have proved that we can manage and know how to proceed on our own, and we must now just continue on this path in the spirit of good cooperation,″ she concluded.
