Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski on Official Visit to the Republic of Slovenia

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr Nikola Gruevski, is currently on an official visit to Slovenia at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Ms Alenka Bratušek. The visit is the continuation of good cooperation between the countries at the political level, while both sides strive for further strengthening of the economic cooperation between the countries, too.

 

The Prime Minister expressed her satisfaction with the development of the friendly relationships between the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Macedonia that also reflect in the series of high-level meetings. The cooperation between the countries is also good as regards Macedonia's endeavours to join the Euro-Atlantic associations, as Slovenian offers Macedonia its expertise and political support in the process.

 

The discussion partners placed a particular stress on strengthening the economic cooperation between the countries and underlined that despite the economic crisis, the countries recorded an increase in trade in the first half of the year, which is particularly encouraging because this is the highest increase in the region. The countries see opportunities to enhance economic cooperation especially in the field of energy and renewable energy sources, investments in ecological projects and tourism. The Prime Ministers of both countries also stressed the fact that a mixed committee for economic cooperation will meet in January 2014.

 

Prime Minister Bratušek emphasised at the press conference that Slovenia is an active advocate of Macedonia's European perspective. She explained that Slovenia's position in Brussels is that the progress of the Western Balkans in their EU integration process is also in the interest of the European Union and the Member States.
