Prime Minister attends the European Council meeting

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, is today in Brussels to attend the two-day European Council meeting. At the first session on 27 June, the Heads of State or Government will focus on economic policy and youth employment that represents a challenge for most Member States, including Slovenia. 

 

In her doorstep statement, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction that youth employment would be one of the main topics at this summit, especially in view of the fact that Slovenia, unfortunately, recorded the highest increase in the number of unemployed young people. "I am pleased that, as it seems, we were successful in making Slovenia eligible for funding discussed today," explained Ms Alenka Bratušek. A total of 6 billion euros is earmarked for the Youth Employment Initiative, the essential tool for tackling youth unemployment at the level of the European Union. 

 

European leaders will resume the meeting tomorrow when they will discuss progress made in the deepening of the Economic and Monetary Union, and certain aspects of the European Union's foreign policy. On the sidelines of the European Council on Friday, the Prime Minister will meet with the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Dalio Grybauskaitė, and the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso.
