"The commitment undertaken is a promise to people that Slovenia will again become a just state governed by the rule of law," says Slovenian Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, again stressed at today's press conference following the regular government session that in the following days and weeks the Government would focus all its efforts on three sets of priorities, among them a just state governed by the rule of law. A package of laws and a commitment to improving the situation in the judiciary constitute a path to achieving this goal.
The Prime Minister also said that the commitment between the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia in no way causes prejudice to the judicial branch, the Government being aware that the two branches of power are distinctly separated. The adopted document is a promise to people that Slovenia will again become a just state governed by the rule of law. She also added that the commitment undertaken is a result of extended coordination and thanked Justice Minister Senko Pličanič for his efforts in its preparation.
Prime Minister Bratušek explained that the measures contained in the commitment would improve the organisation and efficiency of the judiciary, and, consequently, also its quality. This time next year, the average settlement of cases before all courts should take less than a year and in some procedures and before certain courts not more than three months. She is convinced that the commitment is a step forward to making people believe that Slovenia is a just society and the state governed by the rule of law.
