Today, Alenka Bratušek announced her resignation as Prime Minister to the National Assembly. In her speech, she emphasized that she is resigning with restless, but clean conscience and added: "If we all together understand policy as statesmanship and the care for the common good as our citizen’s duty we will be truly able to say that we work for the prosperity of all our citizens."

"With due respect to the separation of the executive and legislative branches of power and the division between the opposition and the coalition I would like to say that during the entire term of office there was nothing that would go beyond the limits of normal democratic debates and procedures – and this is, in my opinion, one of the achievements of our European Slovenia. As long as we have enough wisdom to tackle even the severest crises with democratic methods and with the responsibility of statesmen, we are well on track," said the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Bratušek went on to stress that after one year of leading the Government she is proud that Slovenia has stabilised public finance and strengthened its position in international and financial markets. "For the first time in five years the economic growth is positive again, while the unemployment rate has been falling.  Practically all institutions drawing up macroeconomic forecasts have submitted substantially improved forecasts for Slovenia. I am convinced that even in these times, which are the most difficult after gaining independence, Slovenia has shown how much it has learned in the two "European" decades and how much we are willing to contribute to our sovereignty, independence – and to our future," she added.
