Prime Minister at the celebration of Civil Protection Day: "Your work is fundamental to the citizens’ safe life"
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, today attended the award ceremony marking the Civil Protection Day. The event was also attended by Slovenian President Borut Pahor, Defence Minister Roman Jakič, and National Assembly Speaker Janko Veber. In her introductory address, the Prime Minister stressed that we are still reeling from the effects of the natural disaster that hit our country in the beginning of the month, when nature showed its power in the dimensions never experienced so far. "The damage caused by the ice storm in the Slovenian forests will not be remedied for a couple of years; severely affected are also power industry and railway infrastructure, while the ice storm effects will also harm the entire economic sector," the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister also thanked all who took part in the relief efforts and damage repair following the natural disaster. "I am aware that all of you who participated in the rescue and disaster relief activities used all your knowledge and past experiences, and above all, you showed that you have a big heart. Please accept a sincere 'thank you' on my own behalf and I am convinced that also on behalf of the citizens of the Republic of Slovenia for everything you have done for us and our country in the recent days."
Ms Bratušek congratulated all award recipients and said that the work they do, without expecting special praise and prize, is one of the fundamental keys to a safe life of the citizens of the Republic of Slovenia.
