The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, called a meeting to assess the situation and discuss what action is to be taken to deal with the effects of sleet and snow that have hit Slovenia. The meeting was attended by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, the President of the National Assembly, the relevant ministers, the Commander of the Civil Protection and Disaster Relief Agency, the President of the Fire Fighting Association of Slovenia, the Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces, and two representatives of the electric power industry. After the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed that the Government would set up an operational working group tasked with establishing in as short a time as possible what changes need to be made to legislation to facilitate the elimination of the consequences of the disaster.

In a statement to the media, the Prime Minister said that they had assessed the situation in the aftermath of the natural disaster, reviewed measures that had already been taken, and agreed on how to proceed in the coming days. "Up until today, a total of 48,000 people have been deployed to help disaster-hit areas, of which the majority have been fire fighters, 10,000 power companies’ workers, 3,000 soldiers, and around 2,000 volunteers," she explained, adding that, as of today, all schools and kindergartens operate as usual, while some 10,000 households are still without power. She also said that it would take several months to repair transmission lines and the whole year to restore the situation to what it was before the disaster.

"We have already begun assessing damage caused by the disaster, and first decisions on damage might be issued as early as this week, but safety comes first," said the Prime Minister, thanking once again all those who selflessly worked days and nights to restore Slovenia to the state it is in now.
