Working meeting of Slovenian PM Bratušek with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel “We agree that Slovenia’s path is the right one.”

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, is on a working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany today. The visit has focused on exchanging views on future bilateral and multilateral cooperation in various areas. The visit is another stop in the series of the Prime Minister’s visits to Slovenia’s major economic partners.

 

In the morning, the PM Bratušek attended a business forum and round table of start-ups. The meeting focused on promoting internationalisation and linking Slovenian and German start-up infrastructure, exchanging good practices and reviewing the options for finding potential investors. On this occasion, the PM Alenka Bratušek also visited Tirendo, one of the most successful German start-up companies.

 

Later on, the Prime Minister had a working lunch with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. In a statement after the meeting, the PM Bratušek stressed that she and the Chancellor agreed that relations between Slovenia and Germany were excellent and that Germany was a major economic and political partner. The Prime Minister said that their talks had touched on the reform process in Slovenia. The PM presented in greater detail the measures that Slovenia had taken and planned to take. According to Bratušek, they agreed that Slovenia’s path is the right one. “At the end, we also exchanged views on enlarging the European Union, which is looked upon favourably by everyone, on condition that the countries which join our family fulfil all criteria and are prepared. We also talked about youth unemployment, and the Chancellor offered to provide some advice on the subject, which is less of a problem in Germany than in Slovenia,” said the PM.

 

The Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Angela Merkel, stressed that the bilateral meeting continued the good relations between the two countries and that she felt after the meeting with the PM that the Slovenian Government was focusing all its efforts on stabilising the economy, so that foreign investors’ confidence could be restored, which is a prerequisite for economic growth and jobs.

 

The PM will conclude her visit to Germany with a meeting with representatives of the Slovenian community in Berlin.
