Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek on her arrival at the EU headquarters in Brussels: "Both Slovenia and Europe as a whole must combat any form of tax evasion"

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, is today in Brussels to attend the European Council meeting. Upon arrival at the European Council headquarters, the Prime Minister made a statement to the press in which she expressed her belief that she will be able to convince her discussion partners that the Government's actions are to the benefit of Slovenia. In connection with the agenda of today's meeting she also stressed that both Slovenia and Europe as a whole should combat any form of tax evasion. The Prime Minister also said that she attended the European Council meeting for the first time and that items of the agenda included issues associated with the area of energy and tax evasion. The Prime Minister particularly highlighted that Slovenia supported all measures aimed at improving the situation in this area. "The Slovenian Government has devoted considerable efforts within its national reform programme to combating tax evasion," stressed the Prime Minister and added that she was particularly looking forward to meeting her EU counterparts for the first time.

 

On the fringes of the meeting, the Prime Minister will also meet the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Jean-Claude Juncker, and the Danish Prime Minister, Helle Thorning-Schmidt. She will also have talks with the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, and the French President, François Hollande.
