The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Alenka Bratušek, today (10 May 2013) met with the European Commissioner for the Environment, Janez Potočnik, at a working lunch at Villa Podrožnik. The Prime Minister and the European Commissioner focused on the topical environmental issues of Slovenia. The two agree that significant progress has been made in the recent period, in particular in the framework of the Natura 2000 programme and with regard to a lingering question concerning the adoption of the plans for air quality in the Zasavje region and major Slovenian towns.

Prime Minister Bratušek has pointed out that, despite progress, Slovenia still has to deal with  quite a few environmental issues that are to be resolved in the shortest time possible, adding that the environmental area offers considerable development opportunities which are, undoubtedly, needed by Slovenia. The Prime Minister is also committed to reaching, as soon as possible, a common sustainable solution of energy issues in the environmentally sensitive area of the Northern Adriatic.
