TAMARA VONTA, STATE SECRETARY

Tamara Vonta was born on 13 December 1970. She attended primary school in her hometown Krško and Brežice Grammar School, and graduated in journalism from the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana. When studying at the university, she gained experience working as a journalist and presenter for local and national printed media and radio stations. Her professional career in television spans nearly 20 years. She was a member of the team that set up POP TV and created its flagship news programme 24UR. As a journalist, an anchor of the main news programme and an editor, she mentored and trained numerous young colleagues.

 

She worked as a visiting lecturer at several higher education institutions (Gea College, IAM, MPM, etc.) and a licensed lecturer of journalism at the Faculty of Media in Ljubljana. She conducted numerous training courses on public speaking for different clients, and cooperated with young people in NGOs, societies and schools. 

 

In 2011, she was elected Deputy of the National Assembly on Zoran Janković's List – Positive Slovenia. As chair of the parliamentary Commission for Petitions, Human Rights and Equal Opportunities, she focused on issues associated with the fundamental human rights of all citizens and, especially,  the most vulnerable groups (the Roma, the erased and minorities), and equal opportunities for women and men in all areas and on all levels. She was also a proposer and chair of the investigative commission on extremism and a member of the EMUNI working group.

 

She has faith in people and their power of creation. She writes, reads and never ceases to learn. Ms Vonta lives with her family in Krško and commutes to Ljubljana.
