Prime Minister Janez Janša meets with EBRD President to discuss development measures and structural reforms

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, and the Minister of Finance, Janez Šušteršič, met today with the President of the of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Sir Sum Chakrabarti.

 

The Prime Minister and the EBRD President devoted the main part of the meeting to the current economic situation in Slovenia as well as to the development measures and structural reforms being prepared by the Slovenian Government.  In this context Prime Minister Janša stressed the extreme importance of the rapid adoption of reforms for Slovenia and said that the Government would strive to achieve the widest possible consensus on this issue.

 

The EBRD President, Sir Suma Chakrabarti, commended the concept of the measures already adopted by the Government in order to tackle the consequences of the economic and financial crisis and simultaneously expressed his support for the Government's plans for future reforms and measures. He particularly emphasised that that this is the best possible moment for implementing reforms. The EBRD President expressed an invitation to join the projects in the Mediterranean area into which EBRD is expanding its activities.

 

Prime Minister Janša congratulated the EBRD President on his recent election in a transparent process as Sir Suma Chakrabarti took the helm of the institution in June 2012. Sir Suma Chakrabarti is attending the Bled Strategic Forum, on the margins of which he will also hold other bilateral meetings.
