The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today met with the President of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan. The two statesmen assessed bilateral relations between the two countries as good and friendly, both agreeing there are opportunities for strengthening political and economic cooperation in the future. They also touched upon the economic crisis and the ways of dealing with it. Prime Minister Pahor said that Slovenia was on its way to gradual recovery, still awaiting the adoption of certain reforms to underpin its competitiveness. In this context, he pointed to the reform of the pension system. President Sargsyan said that Armenia was badly hit by the crisis and experienced a sharp drop in GDP. Its recovery is regrettably not as rapid and stable as hoped for. The country is also facing a very high rate of inflation.

At the close of the meeting, the two dignitaries touched upon the situation in the Mediterranean and consequences of unrests for the entire region. They agreed that conflicts need to be resolved peacefully. This requires a lot of mutual trust and wisdom of political leaders. Prime Minister Pahor said that, now more than ever, was the time for politicians who are willing to talk and listen and make compromises for the benefit of all the parties involved. The Armenian President added that the processes of democratic changes in the Mediterranean need to be introduced gradually and in a peaceful way.
