Prime Minister Pahor meets mayors of the Posavje region

The Slovenian Prime Minister, Borut Pahor, alongside the Minister of the Environment and Spatial Planning, Dr Žarnić, the Minister of the Economy, Dr Lahovnik, and the associates, today held a meeting with mayors of the Posavje region, the representatives of the company Infra d.o.o. and the representatives of the Board for the Lower Sava River Hydroelectric Power Plants at the Council of the Posavje Region. The working meeting mainly focused on giving fresh impetus to and accelerate the procedures related to the implementation of the project covering the construction of hydroelectric power plants on the lower Sava River.

The participants established that in recent months, the dynamics in the construction of the Krško hydroelectric power plant and in planning the Brežice and Mokrice power plants has somewhat lost its intensity.  There are several reasons for this situation, the two principle being restricted financial resources and lengthy procedures related to the adoption of spatial plans for the Brežice and Mokrice hydroelectric power plants.

Moreover, the meeting participants agreed that the investor, Infra d.o.o., would rationalise and adapt the investment plan for the Krško hydroelectric power plant. The plan should accordingly not exceed the available funds, which are being raised to this end at the Water Fund. The verification of the harmonised investment plan will in fact facilitate the implementation of a public tender for the selection of a construction works provider and thus enable the construction of the Krško power plant to be resumed in the shortest time possible. Furthermore, it was agreed that the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning would as soon as possible submit the national spatial plan for the Brežice and Mokrice hydroelectric power plants for the purpose of public presentation.

Prime Minister Pahor also accepted the invitation extended by the Posavje mayors and promised them that he would soon visit the construction sites of the hydroelectric power plant chain on the lower Sava River.
