Prime Minister Pahor and Government members visit Bela Krajina and the Kočevje-Ribnica area

Within a series of visits to the Slovenian regions, the Slovenian Government today visited Bela Krajina and the Kočevje-Ribnica area. The visit started with a working meeting in Kočevje, where ministers assessed the situation in individual areas and relevant industry sectors. The ministers presented their timetables and the anticipated on-the-spot visits, as well as the goals that would be pursued during the day.

Prime Minister Pahor, accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, Milan Pogačnik, first visited the forest companies Grča d.d. and Snežnik d.d.,  where he was received by the Mayor of the Kočevje municipality, Janko Veber, and the general managers of Grča and Snežnik, Branko Južnič and, respectively Julijan Rupnik. The competent staff acquainted the guests with the situation in the forestry sector of this area and outlined their concepts of possible improvements and the vision of the company's development. Minister Pogačnik presented to the company's management the government measures in the area of agriculture and forestry and the plan of his Ministry for the future.

Prime Minister Pahor then visited Melamin d.d., where he was received by the company's general manager, Mr Srečko Stefančič, and his associates. Mr Stefančič presented to Mr Pahor and his delegation the company's principle activities, as well as his vision of development and problems faced by Melamin in realising this vision. During the talks, the participants also touched upon the issue related to the Slovenian railway sector. Prime Minister Pahor highlighted the great potential of the railway sector in the future, which, however, first requires restructuring followed by investments.

In Črnomelj, Mr Pahor visited Livar d.d., where he was greeted by the company's Chairman of the Management Board, Uroš Korže, and the Mayor and Deputy Major of the Črnomelj municipality, Andrej Fabjan and, respectively Božidar Brajkovič. During the talks, the Prime Minister was informed about the situation in the company and also visited the production facilities.

At the close of his working visit, Prime Minister Pahor visited the successful furniture manufacturer, Kolpa d.d., in Metlika, where he was received by the Chairman of the Management Board, Mirjan Kulovec, and his associates, and by the Mayor of the Metlika municipality, Ms Renata Brunskole. Mr Kulovec outlined the company's activities and the impact of the economic and financial crisis on its operations.

In the follow-up to these visits, Mr Pahor again met with the ministers, and the mayors, business people, deputies and councillors from Bela Krajina and the Kočevje-Ribnica area. After an exchange of views concerning the earlier meetings and a discussion on the current situation, each minister presented the priorities to be addressed in this part of Slovenia.
