Prime Minister Pahor today met with Dr Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today received Dr Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), who is on a visit to Slovenia, accompanied by Eduardo Fayos-Sole, the UNWTO Regional Representative for Europe.

 

Prime Minister Pahor and his two guests first assessed the situation of tourism at the global level and in particular in Slovenia.  The UNWTO Secretary-General commended the exceptional tourist development potentials of Slovenia and presented his views on the organisational structure of the Slovenian tourism sector.  The participants in the discussion also exchanged views on the importance of tourism with regard to economic recovery after the financial crisis. On this occasion, Dr Rifai also presented the "Roadmap to Recovery", a document drawn up by the UNWTO as a response to the crisis. The document comprehensively represents the potentials of tourism as a successful industry contributing to crisis resolution based on three interrelated pillars – resilience, stimulus and "green economy".
