Prime Minister Pahor attends Berlin Wall celebration

Borut Pahor, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, today attended the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, which brought together in Berlin a number of high-level personalities from abroad. Prior to the event, the Prime Minister was also present at the reception hosted by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Horst Köhler, and his wife in the Bellevue Palace, the presidential residence.

The fall of the Berlin wall epitomises the end of the communist regimes in Eastern Europe as well as the East-West division.  As such, it also paved the way for reunification of the two Germanys. The many celebrations held to mark the 20th anniversary of this watershed event culminated in the festivity which took place today at the Brandenburg Gate. The speakers included German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Britain's PM Gordon Brown, France’s PM Nicolas Sarkozy, Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
