Prime Minister Pahor attends closing of 56th World Ploughing Contest

On Saturday, 5 September, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor,  attended the closing ceremony of the 56th World Ploughing Contest, held at Tešanovci. At the beginning of his speech, Prime Minister Pahor congratulated the participants on their achievements and pointed out that "the ploughing competition constitutes an effective way of introducing new technical and technological solutions and other innovations into food production." Mr Pahor also congratulated the organisers, who despite the harsh economic times managed to organise and carry out the World Ploughing Contest.

Prime Minister Pahor also highlighted the measures taken by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia to alleviate the financial crisis in respect of the agricultural sector.  "We speeded up payments for last year’s CAP measures and will do the same within the budgetary framework possibilities for this year," announced the Prime Minister. The Government assists sectors in difficulty through the so-called "de minimis" measure and has, in addition, "introduced certain fiscal and other forms of relief for farms operating under difficult conditions," pointed out Mr Pahor in the conclusion of his speech.
