Prime Minister Pahor: Economic Diplomacy Should Be Strengthened

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, attended the annual Slovenia diplomatic meeting, held today at the Brdo Congress Centre at Brdo pri Kranju, where he addressed the diplomatic corps. The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, and the Foreign Minister, Samuel Žbogar, also took part in the meeting.

In his introduction, Prime Minister Pahor thanked the Slovenian representations abroad for their role in successfully preparing working and official visits and underlined the significance of co-operation between the state and the Slovenian representatives abroad. In this context, Mr Pahor highlighted the importance of this year's diplomatic visits, which were, in contrast to the previous year's visits, dedicated especially to economic issues and to addressing the current economic and financial crisis.

In his address, Prime Minister Pahor pointed out the special importance of strengthening economic diplomacy, which, particularly in these times of crisis, is of key importance for maintaining established international economic links and establishing new links. "Economic diplomacy", he said, "will more than ever before, be a key objective of relations with foreign countries and it is of utmost importance that we, in particular in these difficult times, strengthen economic co-operation between countries, in part through the work of Slovenian diplomacy." Mr Pahor asked the assembled diplomats to contribute to the best of their abilities to the Slovenian economy and thus contribute to the strengthening of economic co-operation: "Our task is to support Slovenian enterprises in expanding, as much as possible, in their existing markets and to assist in opening new markets."
