Prime Minister’s press conference

At today’s press conference, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr Borut Pahor, presented the major resolutions and decisions adopted at the 31st regular session of the Government. In his introductory statement, Prime Minister Pahor announced that the social partners and the representatives of opposition parties would be invited next week to participate in the second development dialogue conference, which will deal with the issue of structural reforms.

Prime Minister Pahor once more stressed the importance of social cohesion in a time of social and economic difficulties and added that the Government's efforts were aimed, along with maintaining social cohesion, at enhancing the country's competitiveness, since this is the only way for Slovenia to emerge from the crisis as a socially more coherent and economically stronger country.

At today's session, the Government adopted a proposal on court and out-of-court settlements concerning compensation for non-material damage originating from excessive emissions as a consequence of the increase in heavy goods road transport vehicles on national road G1-3 (settlements from Spodnja Ščavnica to the Dolga vas border crossing). The Ministry of Justice launched a proposal on the provision of funds to cover the payment of these court and out-of-court settlements, and of all those to follow during the year. According to Government estimates, some 400 claimants are expected to conclude these settlements this year.

In addition, the Government took note of the relevant legal basis governing the issue of salary compensation at the end of the term of office of Slovenian MEPs. The Rules in force lay down that MEPs are entitled to a transitional allowance for the period proportionate to the duration of their term of office. The transitional allowance sum received from the European Parliament budget is the same as the basic national parliament allowance to which MEPs are entitled upon termination of their term of office. However, it is to be noted that all equivalent national allowances are deducted from the transitional allowance amount given to MEPs by the European Parliament.
