At today’s press conference, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, presented the key resolutions and decisions adopted at the 8th regular government session.  He explained that the ministers were informed of the preparation of the legal basis for the Staff Accreditation Council, which will begin its activities next Thursday. The Government also opted for a moratorium on new appointments, for which the Council will issue preliminary opinions.

The Prime Minister also announced the launch of procedures for the revision of the national budget. To this end, the Government today adopted a timeline for harmonisation, first between ministries and later within the Government. All necessary resolutions to regulate payments of directors’ fees as well as salaries and benefits of managers of state-owned companies will be drafted by the next session.

On Saturday, 31 January, the Government will hold a working consultation to discuss the following two topics: possibilities for increased drawing of European funds, and a framework proposal for a package of savings measures.  “If we want to alleviate the burden placed on the economy, we must reduce the general cost of the state,” pointed out Prime Minister Pahor.

Mr Pahor also reiterated that the Foreign Ministry has been drawing up a declaration on further management of relations with the Republic of Croatia with an emphasis on delimitation of the state border. The Government wishes that at the end of the month and with the required majority the National Assembly ratifies the act on accession of the Republic of Croatia to NATO.

The planned meeting with the Gazprom's chief executive, Alexei Miller, would be a courtesy meeting of informative nature aimed at exchanging views on the implementation of the South Stream project, said Prime Minister Pahor.
