Luxembourg Prime Minister Juncker, current president of the euro area, expressed optimism about the further role of the euro in the current conditions of global economic and financial uncertainty, while Slovenian Prime Minister Pahor stressed the problem of inflation in new members of the euro area after its adoption. In relation to the latter, the Slovak Prime Minister emphasised the special attention devoted to this sensitive issue by the Slovak government.

In their further discussions, the prime ministers addressed the gas supply crisis resulting from the gas row between Russia and Ukraine, and expressed their dissatisfaction over the continuation of the crisis. They also exchanged views on the possibilities of an early resolution of the problem, as well as on alternative energy sources.
