The participants of today's working meeting discussed renewable energy sources, economical and efficient energy use and projects relating to the energy sector. They agreed that Slovenia needs a new energy programme. The Strategic Council also familiarised itself with current problems in the area of gas supply to Slovenia resulting from the dispute between Russia and Ukraine.

The Strategic Council for Energy is a consultative body of the Prime Minister. Its task is to monitor the energy situation in the Republic of Slovenia, draft professional guidelines and energy-related proposals for the Prime Minister and analyse individual elements of the energy system.

At tomorrow's regular weekly session, Mr Pahor will inform the Slovenian Government of the establishment of the Strategic Council for Energy.
