The Government of the Republic of Slovenia strives to solve the financial problems of the Slovenian minority in Italy

In the second decision of 2 December 2008, the National Assembly Committee for Relations with Slovenes Abroad expressed the expectation that the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, would, in light of efforts to solve the financial problems of the Slovenian minority living in Italy, discuss the matter with the Italian Prime Minister as soon as possible.

A day later, on 3 December 2008, the Slovenian Prime Minister exchanged views on this issue in a long telephone conversation with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.  The two statesmen agreed on a meeting of their advisors.  After a consultation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Žbogar, and the Minister for Slovenes Abroad, Dr Boštjan Žekš, the Prime Minister decided to send his foreign affairs advisor, Dr Dimitrij Rupel, to participate in talks in Rome.
