Promoting a better quality of life through our own innovations

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today attended the fifth innovation forum and addressed the participants. He emphasised that now is the time for technological and innovation renaissance for which a harmonised policy in all areas important for innovation is required.

Prime Minister Pahor said that in his view “the only raw material of Slovenia is our own knowledge and only if we know how to use it we will be able to ensure ourselves a high quality of life in the competitive world”. He stressed that the Government, after the outbreak of global economic crisis, even increased budget items for research and development what was a very unpopular decision at that time, since, after the outbreak of the crisis, the Government strongly reduced the budget expenditure with the exception of social transfers.

The Government articulated its vision to alleviate social distress and enhance competitiveness of the Slovenian economy at the same time. Moreover, its key element is to boost innovation, added the Slovenian Prime Minister. In addition, Mr Pahor spoke about the proposal for the Research and Innovation Strategy of the Republic of Slovenia for 2011-2020 (also entitled Daring Slovenia) which will be of great importance for the area of innovation since it particularly envisages more effective innovation promoting added value and economic growth.

“We have placed human resources, knowledge and innovation in the foreground”, closed his address Prime Minister Pahor and underlined that the Government has been attempting to establish a research and innovative environment which will include all participants and will be open to the world to seek new challenges.
