The Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor yesterday in Prague attended a formal dinner hosted by the US President Barack Obama for the leaders of eleven Central and Eastern European countries. This process launched at Brdo pri Kranju represents a significant informal framework for strengthening trust among the Western Balkan leaders, emphasised Mr Pahor. He continued by calling particular attention to the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and outlined the dilemmas arising during the attempts to resolve the issue of this country's future. "In any event, people should not only be provided peace, but also perspective and prosperity," emphasised Prime Minister Pahor.

He went on to touch upon the new Nuclear Arms Reduction Treaty signed yesterday by the US and Russia. Mr Pahor expressed his satisfaction with the signing of this document "because of its message to the world that highly sensitive issues can be resolved in a peaceful manner and that we can look to the future with a certain degree of confidence and hope". At the close of his address, the Slovenian Prime Minister focused on Afghanistan and the security situation in this Central Asian country. He noted that an increase in the number of troops does in itself not represent a strategy that would suffice to resolve the problem and to persuade the public who is becoming increasingly sceptical of this course of action.
