In his address Mr Pahor said that the absence of excellence in today's competitive world makes it extremely hard to move ahead and to be among the best. "Excellence is something that decides on whether or not we will succeed. In terms of global economy, not only self-employed entrepreneurs and SMEs, but also large business systems can be considered small. In order to be competitive, they must create a certain added value, which is nothing but the very element of excellence.  Moreover, as a relatively small country, Slovenia cannot compete in terms of quantity, but certainly in terms of quality, and this is its opportunity to be successful. Mr Pahor went on to emphasise that "the state should indeed do its utmost to introduce a level playing field, on which, however, those who have more talent, heart, ambitions and business ideas will certainly be more successful than those who do not make efforts or lack adequate talent or vision.

At the close of his address, Prime Minister Pahor said that events such as this one are an opportunity to commend those who go beyond average. We can succeed as a community, "provided that we get used to the fact that there are people among us who are more competent and successful than we are. The Government is well aware of the importance of knowledge and by way of this very prize, tries to demonstrate its value and highlight its intrinsic lustre." It is also quite important that we are proud of successful persons who are part of our community. "Their success is also our success," concluded the Slovenian Prime Minister and once again congratulated all business excellence prize winners.
