Prime Minister Pahor visits Slovenian Railways

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, accompanied by the Minister of Transport, Patrick Vlačič, today again visited Slovenian Railways, where the interlocutors continued the discussion on measures aimed at the improvement of the company’s business operations.  The main topics of today's visit referred in particular to the financial and business rehabilitation plan of the company; however, the government and company representatives also talked about European railway policy.   In his statement to the press after the meeting, Prime Minister Pahor expressed his satisfaction with the work carried out so far and said that he is convinced that "with joint forces, we will succeed in rehabilitating and subsequently modernising Slovenian Railways".

"I think that on account of these meetings we are approaching this goal faster than we would otherwise, and therefore I intend to proceed with this practice in the future," said the Prime Minister, adding that the rehabilitation and modernisation project is not only a complex business project but also a political project, "as it demands enormous financial resources and must therefore enjoy the support of the general public as well as the National Assembly."   The Prime Minister also emphasised the role of social partners and social dialogue in this project and stated that "it is important now that we all strive for the same goal, which is to rehabilitate and modernise Slovenian Railways as soon as possible. The process goes in the right direction.  We will be faced with big but not insurmountable problems and slowly achieve the set goals to make Slovenian Railways a well regulated business system in the coming years," concluded Prime Minister Pahor.

The participants of the meeting were also acquainted with the setting up of a steering committee to be chaired by the Minister of Transport, Patrick Vlačič.  The key tasks of the committee will be to operatively direct the set activities and to provide adequate dynamics.
