The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, accompanied by the Minister of the Economy, Matej Lahovnik, is currently on a working visit to the Russian Federation, where he met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. The visit is not only intended for signing the agreement on cooperation in constructing the South Stream gas pipeline, but also an opportunity to reaffirm a high level of friendly relations between the two countries.

During their talks, the prime ministers discussed bilateral relations and the possibilities of strengthening economic cooperation. Mr Pahor and Mr Putin also exchanged views on promoting bilateral political dialogue, which had been particularly enhanced during the two Slovenian presidencies, i.e. the 2006 OSCE Presidency and the Council of Europe Presidency in the first half of 2008. In the evening, Prime Minister Pahor will attend the first leg of the play-offs for qualification for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
