Mr Pahor and Dr Sólyom also exchanged views on tackling the financial and economic crisis, agreeing that, in order to emerge from the crisis more rapidly, it is necessary to provide additional stimulus to the economy and to increase competitiveness. The good economic cooperation between Slovenia and Hungary is also reflected in excellent trade relations between the two countries; the Port of Koper plays a significant role in this respect.  In this connection, Mr Pahor said that the transport route from Koper would be further modernised, which would additionally contribute to a greater volume of trade between Slovenia and Hungary.  Prime Minister Pahor and President Sólyom also discussed the enlargement and future of the European Union, the situation in the Western Balkans and certain environmental issues.

In their talks, they also touched on the issue of national minorities. Mr Pahor assured Dr Sólyom that Slovenia would make every effort to ensure that the Hungarian minority in Slovenia regards Slovenia as their homeland, saying that he hoped that Hungary would do the same for the Slovenian minority in Hungary.
